Presentation Bootcamp III

This event is for members only and is scheduled to follow our Atlanta training. Preference will be given to new Leaders trained there. Our bootcamps help climate activists learn to give effective presentations with confidence. Coverage includes how to find an audience, strategies for organizing your slides, prep material including a pitch letter and answers to difficult questions, pro tips from an experienced presenter, a chance to practice your personal story, an opportunity to present some slides and get constructive feedback, resources to share with your audience about what they can do, and for those who need it, basic technical help. Maximum 15 people. Lunch provided ($10 each).

CARBON PRICING 101

Northbrook Public Library

There’s growing support for carbon pricing as a necessary step to address climate change. Our program helps people understand this solution. This was the first offering of this new program initiated by Climate Reality (Chicago Chapter) in conjunction with Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL) IL and League of Women Voters (LWV) Arlington Heights, Evanston. Speakers included Rick Knight is Research Coordinator at Citizens’ Climate Education Corp., Eleanor Revelle is Chair of the Climate Change Task Force of the LWVUS and a member of the Steering Committee of the League’s Price on Carbon Network and Mike Zanillo is a full-time volunteer and state co-coordinator for Illinois for the CCL.

BUILDING MOMENTUM

RF100 Chicago Collective Kickoff/24 Hours of Reality Watch Party

A kickoff party for our coalition, a diverse array of Chicago area groups organized by Sierra Club’s Ready For 100 team that seeks a commitment and path forward for our great city to be powered by 100-percent clean energy. This kickoff celebration included The Climate Reality Project’s “24 Hours of Reality: Protect Our Planet, Protect Ourselves.” Hosted by former Vice President Al Gore. Ravi Baichwal, the award-winning anchor from ABC News, served as our MC and numerous speakers gave us perspective and insight into their efforts in the city.

IL #YouthVGov Rally

Federal Plaza, 219 S. Dearborn, Chicago

Raised awareness of the trial set to begin on this day in federal court in Oregon. Twenty-one youth plaintiffs are suing the government for lack of addressing climate change, endangering their (and all of our) future. Visit Our Children’s Trust for more details.

Chicago EPA Hearing on ACE

Chicago had the only public hearing on the federal administration’s replacement proposal for the Clean Power Plan dubbed the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) proposal. Oral responses were five minutes maximum and about a dozen Chicago Chapter members participated.

Peoples Climate Movement ‘Rise For Climate’
