Get into ACTION with us.
Join our efforts to get this important legislation passed in our state as soon as possible. We work in close step with the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, our state coalition of over a hundred groups working for environmental solutions in our state, to raise awareness for this bill, introduced in the spring of 2019, and to build broad support. This powerful bill would put our state on a path to emissions-free power by 2030, builds a just transition and would commit the state to 100% clean energy by 2050.
Our presentations help educate people about the severity of our climate crisis, so we can swiftly work together on the deep actions necessary to fully implement the solutions — already within our reach.
If you are a Climate Reality Leader or chapter member who has or will be giving presentations about the climate crisis, join this team for additional resources including regional slides, guidance and a team of others from the region working as a community for greatest reach and effectiveness.
We must address our waste stream. It’s indicative of fundamental problems: consumerism, continued extraction, disregard. Humans are the only creators of waste on the planet. Nature keeps everything in the mix, a circular stream of things ever put to use. Let’s clean up our act together. Top priorities currently are Styrofoam and addressing restaurants.
We have a team dedicated to moving our public transportation infrastructure to electrify. Together, they organize, research, educate and advocate for the transition specifically to electric buses in the region.
The committee is focused on Pace which currently has plans to procure and build infrastructure for compressed natural gas buses. This would lock in this fuel source for decades. The sooner we go electric, the better. Let’s help this and other organizations find a path to electrification NOW.
At Climate Reality, we know the digital era is upon us and that there’s huge potential to reach large audiences through media. Join this team to harness these possibilities. Work with fellow members for advocacy and climate solutions through communications avenues.
Part of this effort could be building a rapid response team that can prepare us for the distribution of quick, actionable information that can be swiftly broadcast to our members and followers.
Climate Action Book Club
What better way to keep up on topics and our environmental education than to coordinate our reading piles to align for follow up discussion on key titles of the times? All are welcome, even those who didn’t have a chance to read all or any of a given book! These discussions are informative and inclusive. Please join us.
We take turns as conversation facilitators — who select the club’s read. These are scheduled on a bimonthly basis to allow for other reading to mix into your schedule as well. Let us know if you want to join our attendee email list or check our calendar for meetups.
In addition to these action teams, we are tracking member interest in a variety of additional climate-related areas which we call CIRCLES — including areas such as solutions, youth action and environmental justice. Members, be sure to take our CIRCLES POLL (with committee interest options).
And we’re always looking for people to help with communications and member engagement. Email us if interested!
